How the Finance Committee's Proposed Budget Will Hurt Our Schools

What's truly sad is that the mayor says these cuts won't help reduce the city's deficit one bit because the city council has no power to reappropriate the money. The money will be cut from the budget and will never be collected from residents and therefore not going into paying down the debt the city councilors claim to be so concerned about. And the real kicker is that our debt load is perfectly reasonable for a city our size. There is absolutely nothing extraordinary about it. We're not on the verge of going bankrupt now or any time in the future.

Make no mistake, these cuts are absolutely unproductive and unnecessary.
